His health journey
Roker has experienced several significant health challenges over the years. In 2020, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer after a routine medical checkup. Because the cancer was detected early, he underwent surgery and has subsequently spoken publicly about the importance of regular health screenings.
His most serious recent health crisis came in late 2022, when he was hospitalized with blood clots in his lungs. He later revealed that he had also experienced internal bleeding and required several procedures. After recovering, he returned to Today in January 2023.
Since then, Roker has continued working and discussing health, fitness and wellness. A 2026 profile from Health described him as focusing on exercise, healthy habits and spending time with his family.
Still working and enjoying family life
Roker’s professional activities have continued well beyond his weather duties. He remains associated with Today and other television projects, and he has also been involved with the PBS Kids series Weather Hunters
Al Roker, the longtime Today weather anchor, is alive and still active on television. He recently celebrated his 72nd birthday on August 20, 2026.
