Michael J. Fox credits acting comeback with extending his life while battling Parkinson’s

After decades of living with Parkinson’s disease, Michael J. Fox has returned to acting in a role fans are calling powerful.

Fox was diagnosed at just 29, while at the height of his career. The disease eventually forced him to step back from acting, but he chose to focus on living his life rather than feeling sorry for himself.

“Parkinson’s sucks, but it’s a great life,” Fox said in 2023. After more than 35 years with the disease, he says he has learned to accept each day as it comes, even as his physical challenges increase.

Recently, Fox returned to the screen in Season 3 of Shrinking, starring alongside Harrison Ford. In one scene, Ford’s character reveals he has Parkinson’s, leading to a humorous exchange that highlights Fox’s trademark comedic timing.

The role reunited Fox with series co-creator Bill Lawrence, whom he previously worked with on Spin City and Scrubs. Fox had personally reached out after learning the show featured a Parkinson’s storyline.

Fox says returning to acting has given his life renewed purpose. “It’s really prolonged my life and made my life interesting in a way that I didn’t think it would be to this point,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Though Parkinson’s has changed his life, Fox remains determined to keep moving forward. His return is a reminder of his talent, humor, and remarkable resilience.
